Our Design Philosophy
Every landscape begins as a conversation between site, climate, and the rhythms of everyday living. We do not impose a predetermined style upon the earth. Instead, our practice listens to prevailing southerlies, the angle of seasonal sunlight across Canterbury plains or coastal headlands, and how your family inhabits outdoor rooms from morning coffee to starlit evenings. The result is a garden that feels quiet, enduring, and unmistakably anchored to New Zealand soil.
Five Disciplined Stages
From First Conversation to Finished Garden
A transparent, considered progression that guides your landscape from early site discovery to enduring maturity.
-
1
Initial Site Consultation
We meet on your grounds to evaluate topography, existing tree canopy, boundary microclimates, soil vitality, and prevailing winds. More importantly, we discuss your daily habits, preferred textures, entertaining styles, and long-term intentions for outdoor dwelling.
Stage Output: Site appraisal briefing notes and aspirational project scope. -
2
Concept Development & Spatial Flow
Translating the initial brief into preliminary spatial master plans. We establish sightlines from interior living zones, define functional thresholds, balance open turf with dense native shelters, and curate a tactile material palette of local timber, stone, and aggregate.
Stage Output: 2D master plan diagrams, mood boards, and spatial flow perspectives. -
3
Detailed Landscape Design & Planting Specs
Refining the agreed concept into precise technical documents. This comprises exact botanical schedules detailing endemic and climate-resilient species, bespoke hardscape engineering details, gentle ambient lighting schemes, and automated irrigation plans.
Stage Output: Comprehensive construction drawings, consent documents, and botanical schedules. -
4
Crafted Implementation & Construction
Our studio coordinates seamlessly with certified local landscape contractors, stone masons, arborists, and nursery specialists. We provide rigorous on-site oversight during earth contouring, drainage preparation, hardscape installation, and delicate specimen planting.
Stage Output: Active site stewardship, artisan trade management, and milestone quality audits. -
5
Finishing Touches & Seasonal Stewardship
The garden is completed with custom hand-picked outdoor furnishings, fine organic mulches, tailored pottery, and lighting calibrations. We then provide a bespoke seasonal maintenance regimen to nurture plant maturity over the evolving New Zealand seasons.
Stage Output: Handover guide, seasonal maintenance ledger, and 12-month studio check-in.
Site-Specific Sensitivity
Designed Around Your Site and Way of Living
Every curve of retaining timber, sheltered terrace, and pocket of tussock grass is informed by genuine dialogue. We balance aesthetic composure with the physical realities of rain shadows, soil acidity, and coastal salt spray.
Our intention is to craft private exterior environments that deepen your connection to your home and offer timeless tranquility throughout every New Zealand season.
